A new synthesis: binary metal oxide (ZnSnO3) initiated outward growth of ZIF-8.

High content Sn nanoparticles are well embedded in N-rich continuous carbon.

The hybrid shows high initial coulombic efficiency and capacity as a LIB anode.

This new strategy can extend for the synthesis of other energy hybrid materials.
