Study on hydrogenation behaviors of a Mg-13Y alloy

We examine the hydrogenation thermodynamics in the Mg-13Y powder alloy.

We observe the microstructure evolution in the bulk alloy during hydrogenation.

Hydrogenation enthalpy of 伪-Mg containing yttrium is −42 kJ/mol H2 by experiment.

Enthalpy of the reaction (Mg24Y5 + 5H2 → 24 Mg + 5YH2) is −195 kJ/mol H2 by calculation.

The large Mg24Y5 phases could be hydrogenated into fine cuboid YH2 phases.
