Previous data showed an antiporter is involved in thermotolerance in A. tropicalis.
The gene (At-nhaK2) disruption impaired the growth at high temperatures with pH > 6.5.
The growth of At-nhaK2-mutant was also shown to be impaired in the high conc. of K+.
K+/H+ antiporter activity was shown to be defect in the mutantm by the ISO vesicles.
Phylogenetic analysis showed that At-nhaK2 is a novel type of Na+ /H+ antiporter.
