A dinuclear copper(II) complex, [L
2Cu
2(μ-ClA)] (ClO
4)
2 (
1), with a chloranilate dianion (ClA
2−) as the bridging ligand and 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (L) as the capping ligands is reported.
1 Crystallizes in the monoclinic space group
P21/
n with the cell constants
a = 9.540(1),
b = 13.572(2),
c = 13.544(2) Å, β = 96.31(1)°,
V = 1743.0(4) Å
3 and
Z = 2. The structure of the cation in
1 consists of a planar chloranilate unit bridging two five-coordinated square-pyramidal Cu(II) centres and resulting in the intramolecular Cu
Cu separation of 7.679 Å. Variable temperature (4.2-300 K) magnetic susceptibility data yield a moderate antiferromagnetic interaction between the copper centres in
1 with an exchange coupling constant of
J = −12.3 cm

H = −2
