Yb3+-doped Y6MoO12 solid solutions are very promising NIR emitting phosphors. Low temperature spectroscopic measurement taking advantage of the Yb3+ structural probe indicate three Yb3+ sites. Due to cubic structure maybe it will be possible to obtain them in the nearest future in the form of transparent ceramics. Broad absorption and emission lines suitable for ultra-short laser pulse lasers. Yb3+-doped Y6MoO12 solid solutions possess many advantages in comparison with other molybdates.
