Chrysotile fibres in contact with cell cultures undergo pseudomorphic amorphization.

Crocidolite in contact with cell cultures shows very minor signs of amorphization.

Erionite seems to be the more stable fibre species in the cellular environment.

The amorphized Si-rich skeleton of chrysotile may prompt the formation of HOradical dotinlimg="/entities/rad" src="/sd/grey_pxl.gif" class="glyphImg imgLazyJSB">.
