Self-template strategy is reported to synthesize interconnected porous nitrogen-doped CA.

The synergistic effect endows the obtained CA with high specific capacitance considerable cycle performance.

The symmetric supercapacitor delivers an energy density of 22.75 Wh kg−1 at power density of 262.5 W kg−1.

The sample has a potential application in supplying a peak power for electrochromic device.
