Ce1−xTixO2 catalysts with various ratios of Ti/Ce + Ti were prepared by sol–gel method.

The addition of Ti greatly promotes the acidity of various strength.

Ce1−xTixO2 with fluorite structure showed highest stable activity for o-dichlorobenzene oxidation.

Ti redards the substitute of Cl species for basic lattice oxygen and hydroxyl group on surface.

Ti retards greatly the chlorination of o-dichlorobenzene.
