A water-soluble tetracarboxynaphthalocyaninatozinc was prepared by hydrolysis of a novel tetracyano naphthalocyaninatozinc for the first time. Some factors affecting the kinds and yields of product are discussed and solvent effects affecting their visible absorption spectra are also reported. The compound showed a great tendency to form aggregate in NaOH solution. However, CTAB dissociated the aggregates to form cationic micelles. In DMSO, the degree of aggregation was different, and the aggregates were demonstrated to be dimers.
