A new method of fly ash activation with addition of Ca(OH)
2 and a small quantity of Na
2SiO
3 is presented. Scanning electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction analysis, alkali-absorption test, and strength measurement show that the activity of activated fly ash by this method is obviously increased, which can accelerate cement early hydration and promote setting and hardening.
