Spherical hydroxyapatite (HA) bioceramic granules with interconnected pore structure have been fabricated.

The novel method combines the ionotropic gelation of sodium alginate with H2O2 gas-foaming.

The obtained HA granules have small grain size, abundant micro-pores and large specific surface area.

The obtained HA granules own relatively high protein adsorption ability and potential to be a good candidate for bone defect filling materials.
