A polarization dependent damage performance anisotropy in type I doubler KDP crystals was investigated.

The measured pinpoints density as a function of the fluence is wavelength and polarization dependent.

Neither fluence nor polarization has impact on the size distribution of pinpoints.

Different categories of precursor and different mechanisms responsible for damage initiation exist in doubler KDP crystals.
