Study flow polymerization of isobutylene coinitiated by neat AlCl3 in hexane–CH2Cl2.

Obtain 20–100 kDa polyisobutylenes at temperatures from −30 °C to −10 °C.

Decrease reaction time for quantitative conversion to 6 s.

Propose chain transfer dominated polymerization mechanism.

Recognize effects of diluent on active species transformation.
