Comparative RNA-Seq analysis of two maize genotypes with different tolerance to low phosphorus stress were conducted. The differentially expressed Pi-responsive genes were mostly involved in various metabolic pathways and ion transports. Five maize Pi transporter genes may contribute vitally to the different Pi sensitivity of two contrasting maize inbreds.
