A new photocatalytic method was developed for the degradation of bisphenol A by using NaBiO3.

Chemically generated 1O2 was confirmed as major reactive species in dark.

Photo-generated holes and 1O2 were confirmed as major reactive species in the photocatalytic process.

Holes and 1O2 exhibited a synergistic effect during bisphenol A mineralization.
