A diethylstilbestrol (DES) imprinted mesoporous silica-based fluorescent sensor was developed. A highly luminescent tetraphenylethene derivative (TBPE) was used as a signal transducer. TBPE exhibited a strong emission and a large Stoke’s shift when incorporated into a rigid silica matrix. The sensor showed highly sensitive and selective molecular recognition properties toward DES.
