This strain carried a 35.3-kb EPS gene cluster，which is involved in the regulation, polymerization, repeat unit synthesis and export of the EPS.

A gene encoding UDP-galactopyranose mutase was found in this cluster which present rarely in the Streptococcus thermophilus EPS gene cluster.
