Cl-HCO3-B ternary diagram is the new tool for qualitative geochemical assessment for coalbed methane produced water. Huntly CBM produced waters exhibit similar water quality signature to other producing CBM basins around the world. Huntly CBM produced waters signify coal seams of moderate permeability and some interaction with the shallower groundwater. Cl-HCO3-B ternary diagram is reliable for monitoring water quality of cross-aquifer interaction of CBM fields.
