Oxidation of antibiotic norfloxacin was investigated by the electro-Fenton method.

Second-order oxidation rate constant was determined as (1.34 ± 0.03) × 109 M−1 s−1.

Initial TOC value of norfloxacin solutions were decreased to very small values.

LC–MS, GC–MS and IC analysis were conducted to determine oxidation intermediates.

A possible oxidation route was proposed for norfloxacin removal from water.
