Fracture propagation is simulated with a newly-proposed model based on DDM. Natural fracture is reconstructed from shale samples and the small fractures are modelled by virtual elements. Both the tensile and shear fracture network are investigated. Comparative simulations under different crustal stress conditions are performed to investigate the fracture behaviors.
