文摘

Redundancy analysis was applied to a Mississippi shell ring surface collection.

Results showed a relationship between sample size and observed species richness.

Species–Area Curves provided a basis for limited sampling of surface assemblages.

Comparisons with excavation data indicated poor preservation in the plow-zone.

Future shell studies should always implement some form of sub-surface sampling.
