Persistent organic pollutants were detected in the atmosphere of Tuscany, Italy. DDT, DDEs, and PCBs showed the highest concentrations in air with seasonal patterns. PCBs showed a significant correlation with urbanized areas located at <5 km. Higher concentrations were detected at urban sites than at rural sites. Air mass analysis indicated the influence of local sources at the monitoring sites.
