A comprehensive model for temperature distribution in a solar pond is presented.

Novel approaches with respect to modelling the UCZ and the HSZ are provided.

Model incorporates the cooling effect imposed due to freshwater supply to the UCZ.

The simulated pond takes 71 days to reach boiling point starting on the 1st June.

The HSZ does not initially become the hottest zone in the pond.
