A novel photocatalyst of metallic silver nanoparticle/TiO2 heterostructure is prepared by sol-gel route. Chitosan is involved as both template structure and reducing agent. Mesoporous photocatalyst with various pore structures is reported. The improved photocatalytic property can be attributed to highly adjusted dispersion of metallic silver nanoparticles on the surface of titania.
