Directionally solidified Al2O3-Yb3Al5O12 eutectics for selective emitters

Al2O3–Yb3Al5O12 eutectic rods were grown with the laser floating zone method.

Microstructure could be controlled by the solidification rate.

Thermal emission up to 1500 °C was measured in the eutectic rods.

High selective emission from Yb3+ ions was observed at 1 μm.

The matched Yb3+ emission with the Si active region can improve the TPV conversion.
