Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) was compared with continuous flood irrigation.

AWD decreased the global warming potential from rice cultivation by 57–74%.

Milled rice grain total arsenic concentrations were reduced by 59–65% with AWD.

AWD did not reduce rice grain yield or change crop N requirements.
