Archaeological remains of barley were genotyped using the KASP SNP genotyping method. Indigenous barley has been cultivated on the Canary Islands for more than a millennium. Results support pre-Hispanic barley cultivation on Lanzarote. A North African origin of the original colonization of the Canary Islands is also supported.
