S. cerevisiae cell wall protein Scw4 is proteolytically cleaved by Kex2 and yapsins. Processing by yapsins markedly decreases the affinity for covalent attachment. Overproduction of Scw4 leads to aberrant morphology and higher mortality. Only Scw4 processed by yapsins is biologically active.
