PbTx-2 is released from resuspended sediments upon exposure to light. Both full spectrum light and PAR (400-700 nm) engender the release of PbTx-2 to the water column. Autoclaved sediments released PbTx-2 to the water column indicating abiotic processes. Photochemical release of PbTx-2 provides concentrations of the toxin similar to those of an active bloom.
