Nucleation and growth of pure Mg during annealing was investigated through ‘ex-situ’ EBSD characterization. Nucleation was attributed to the formation of sub-grains, independent of their orientation. Growth was dependent on the difference in grain orientation spread (GOS) between neighboring grains. A rotation of nearly 10–30° with respect to the c-axis of parent grain was observed.
