miR-137 acts as a gene network hub during synaptic development and physiology. Many target genes are bidirectionally upregulated or repressed by miR-137. miR-137 target genes function in long-term potentiation and axonal guidance. Intracellular signalling pathways MAPK–ERK, JAK–STAT, RhoA and Pi3K are downstream of miR-137.
