An automated calculation of crown transparency in tree binary images is proposed. Crown transparency depends on crown compactness and foliage transparency. The densities of deep indentations and of macro and micro-holes in the crown are evaluated. Observer subjectivity is removed by statistical thresholds. The background decomposition is based on radius-sized circle plane-tessellation.
