Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are highly coprevalent in the general population. Hypercholesterolemia could be a risk factor for the development of hypertension. The copresence of hypercholesterolemia and hypertension increases the risk of cardiovascular disease in individuals. The pathogenetic link between the two risk factors seems to be the renin–angiotensin system (RAS). A favorable interaction between RAS blockade and prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with hypercholesterolemia is currently supported.
