Tolerance rather than competition leads to spatial dominance of an Antarctic bryozoan

文摘
On Antarctic seabed, the spatially dominant species showed unique habitat use. Inversiula nutrix (dominant) occurs on tops of boulders, and other species on sides. We tested if this was due to competitive superiority or environmental tolerance. Inversiula nutrix was a poor competitor, but was tolerant to sedimentation. Tolerance to sedimentation, not competition, drives dominance in this system.
