Nitrogen-doped carbon with a high degree of graphitization derived from biomass as high-performance electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction

Biomass was transformed into N-doped carbon with high graphitization degree by a facile method. The surface area, graphitization degree and N species of the N-doped carbon can be simply adjusted. The optimized sample shows excellent ORR performance which is comparable to that of Pt/C. All of surface area, graphitization degree and suitable N species contribute to the ORR activity. The N-doped carbon presents better durability and methanol tolerance than Pt/C.
