The combined effect of different milling conditions and carbon excess has been studied.

The reduction of scheelite occurs via a two-step reaction barely influenced by milling intensity.

The yield of WC depends on the intensity of milling conditions.

Sufficiently intense milling allows avoiding an excess of carbon to achieve high WC yields.
