Highly controlled synthesis of multi-shelled NiO hollow microspheres for enhanced lithium storage properties

Multi-shelled hollow NiO microspheres were successfully synthesized by using carbonaceous microspheres as templates. Lithium storage properties of multi-shelled NiO depend on the morphology and structure of shells. Triple-shelled NiO microspheres exhibit high specific capacity, excellent cycling performance and outstanding high-rate capability. Multi-shelled microstructures provide more lithium-storage sites, shorter ion diffusion length, and sufficient expansion space. The multi-shelled NiO is a promising anode material for high-performance LIBs.
