Pulp and paper mill effluent possess genotoxic and cytotoxic pollutants. Effluents caused inhibition of mitotic index in Allium cepa root cells. Effluents also induced chromosomal aberrations and nuclear abnormalities in cells. Treatment led to improved mitotic index and reduction in chromosomal aberrations. Treatment also led to substantial amelioration of genotoxic and cytotoxic effects.
