Parasciadicleithrum octofasciatum n. gen., n. sp. is described by using an integrative taxonomic approach. The new genus is morphologically similar to Sciadicleithrum but genetically distant. The monotypic Parasciadicleithrum n. gen. can be distinguished from Sciadicleithrum spp. based on molecular data. Parasciadicleithrum octofasciatum n. gen., n. sp. is closely related to dactylogyrids from African freshwater cichlids. Phylogeny of dactylogyrids infecting Neotropical cichlids reveals a complex evolutionary history of these parasites.
