Decline of photosynthesis and hydraulics are closely aligned in maize. 83% of the variation in photo-hydraulic traits was explained by a single PCA axis. Transpiration recovers to ca 90% of max values four days after lifting severe stress. Improved performance of maize in dry habitats will require improved hydraulic traits.
