Surface CD5 expression heterogeneity exists within CLL clones. The majority of CD5low B cells in CLL are part of the leukemic clone. Large-scale dynamic relationships exist between CD5high and CD5low B cells in CLL. This phenomenon has implications for disease biology and treatment.
