The current research proposes a paracrisis development model. Social proof and mockery resulted in negative climate of opinion. Social proof and visual mockery yielded perceptions of a crisis. Elicited negative affect increased boycott intentions. Negative affect mediated the effect of social proof and mockery on boycotts.
