Aim: Compare composition and function of Archaea and Bacteria in sponge vs sediment. Biotope proved to be the main identifiable factor affecting microbial composition. There were differences in composition and predicted functions between both biotopes. There was significant congruence in similarity between Archaea and Bacteria. Functional redundancy between Archaea and Bacteria was suggested.
