An organic crisis characterizes large carnivore conservation. Hunters and wolf conservationists appear as movements from below and above. Resistance by hunters trade on regressive, defensive, conservative agrarian values. Hunters desire autonomy rather than to replace conservationist hegemony. Their empirical reflections on their ‘good sense’ also reveals reluctance.
