SERS is revealing the coordination chemistry of plasmonic nanoparticles. A parallelism between the coordination chemistry of metal ions and metal nanoparticles is being constructed. A pictorial view of SERS mechanisms is presented SERS represents an outstanding combination of electronic and vibrational spectroscopy with plasmonics.
