Cortical bone tissue properties are different at periosteal vs. osteonal and endosteal surfaces. Ovarian hormone depletion affects the three cortical surfaces differently Ovarian hormone depletion does not affect the initial amount of mineral formed. Ovarian hormone depletion slows the rate of mineral accumulation and the kinetics of organic matrix modifications. Ovarian hormone depletion does not significantly affect the constituents of the osteoid.
