Highly dispersed chalcopyrite CIS nanoparticles were successfully synthesized.

We demonstrate that DMF promoted the growth of the chalcopyrite structure.

The properties and growth mechanism of CIS nanoparticles were investigated.

Optical measurement revealed a high absorbance in the visible range.
