Motor neuron disease mortality and lifetime petrol lead exposure: Evidence from national age-specific and state-level age-standardized death rates in Australia
About 250,000 tonnes of lead emitted from petrol between 1933 and 2002 in Australia. Age–specific MND death rates increased substantially between 1971 and 2013. Relationships between MND death rate and lifetime petrol lead exposure were assessed. Lifetime petrol lead exposure is associated with age–specific MND death rates. Relationships observed both nationally and in the states.
