29 rock bursts and classifications collected from a diversion tunnel project in gneissic granite formation was compiled. Geological settings, in situ and laboratory test data, as well as the method to obtain parameters for classification, are presented. Modifications to three traditional classification criteria are made based on the database. Evaluation and application to 17 rock bursts introduced in a case study indicate the modifications greatly improved the consistency of the classifications.
