A revised diagnosis of Anoa is given. A new extinct dwarfed buffalo from Sulawesi, Bubalus grovesi, is described. An overview of morphological features of fossil and living dwarfed buffaloes is included. Interdisciplinary evidence is used to discuss for the first time the evolution of the anoas.
